COFFEE WITH A PURPOSE

Redemption Roasters x Storia Films

BRAND DOCUMENTARY

EVERY CUP STARTS WITH A SECOND CHANCE.

The story
Redemption Roasters is a London coffee company with a mission that goes beyond the cup: reducing reoffending by training people in coffee skills and helping them build careers. This film shows the people and purpose behind the brand, without staging it or selling it. It’s a story about work, dignity, and what a fresh start can look like.

How we made it

We spent time with the team and let the story unfold naturally. We shot and focused on the small, real moments. The edit stays close to the voices of the people involved, with a slow, cinematic pace that gives their stories room to breathe.

The impact

Redemption Roasters is a business built to change what happens after prison. It describes itself as the world’s first prison-based coffee company, and its model connects training, employment, and support in one path. Participants can train as baristas and coffee technicians inside prison, receive community support, and then find work in the company’s London coffee shops and roastery. Hundreds of prisoners have been trained in coffee skills, and the company keeps working with them after release to help them secure jobs.

The model works because it’s a real business, not a charity project with a coffee logo. The company says it pursues profit in order to achieve its purpose. It now operates twelve coffee shops across London. Every cup sold funds the next person’s training and the next job.

Our film shows this impact through the people who live it instead of through statistics. The numbers explain the scale, but the film shows what the scale means: someone learning a skill, being trusted with a role, and seeing a different future for themselves.
